Freckly

Hello out there to you :)

Lot of words, no art today. I wish I had something creative to show for myself, but I don't.  I have been selling quite a few little things though, even a big painting recently. Yay!

I think today I have a lot of little things on my mind that are digging at me some.  Relationships, travels, errands...stuff in my brain. I am flying to visit my best buddy from childhood, in Nebraska, in a couple days. Have I mentioned before that I really don't enjoy flying at all?  Just the thought of flying makes me tense up.  Call me crazy, but I can make myself cry just thinking about being on a plane. BUT.....I must maintain, I have to be somewhat cool & collected because my oldest daughter is going with me, & this is her first flight.  Don't want to have to put her in therapy after her crazy mom freaks out on a flight!

So this afternoon, one of the things I did was go get my forehead ironed out.  Botoxed that is.  I had bought this deal awhile back...20 units for a pretty good price, cause all that kind of stuff is expensive & I don't have the money for all that maintenance.  Anyway, so I am in the very lovely little white room, & the lady giving the shots is telling me I will need a little more than I initially bought the deal for.  Ok, fine I say.  Then we start talking about the lines around my mouth(to be fair, I brought it up).  Well, she says...you will need a filler, but that is really not going to help with this area, & then she points to my mouth. Oh, I know, I say, it is starting to turn downward. Oh, also I guess my eyebrows are not high enough...she said she could lift them in the future with shots. My eyebrows? Ha ha, I never even thought they weren't where they should be. She was very nice while saying all this, by the way. Then we went on to what skin care I use, apparently I need prescription strength sunscreen & Retin-A for my fair freckly skin.  So anyway, aside from feeling a little disheartened, & cursing my white lady genes, it all gave me a little chuckle. I guess I will do what I can do occasionally, & then I will have to let nature takes it's course!

Some Kahlo & Some Japanese Style

I made this new watercolor & acrylic painting recently, & named the girl Midori....which is one of the charectors in these Japanese mysteries, I used to read.   Also, I think she turned out a little Frida Kahlo-esqe, with the colorful flowers in her hair.  I have been on a slight Frida kick lately, just ordered a book with writings from her diary...should be interesting!  Anyway, here she is.

New read. So her diary is written in Spanish, of course...ha ha, I didn't really think about that.  Good thing it offers a translation in the back.

Summer Snapshots

Here are some photos of some of what we've been up to lately, these past summer days.

Hanging out at O'Neill Park, a cool wilderness area near our house.

Huntington Libray in San Marino.  They have beautiful gardens & I love their book/gift store....I came home with a very pretty little copy of Jane Eyre.

Miniature model of some of their grounds.

Recycled Tin & Cut Out Girls

I've been making things to keep busy & have fun, in between going places with the 3 kiddos.
I was thinking my mini Altoid tin was too cute to just throw away, so I started decorating the inside of it.  Then I ended up making this little clay Russian type doll, that fits nicely in it.

Also, I had these ink doodle drawings I did, in my art book. A lot of times they just stay in a book & never see the light of day, so  I was thinking I should use some this time.  I cut them out & put them on this piece of wooden plaque, I painted.

Her Headdress

Hello there.

These past few summer days have been spent trying to occupy my kids in creative ways...nature walks, trips to the nursery to buy plants, drawing, blowing bubbles.  I love how something as simple as blowing bubbles makes their little hearts happy(at least for awhile, right?)

Richard(the husband guy), is in Indonesia for a couple weeks, & I think it's cool he is on an adventure.  Very happy he gets to see another part of the world.  But I have a feeling this is going to be a LONG 2 weeks!

I have been working on this little clay doll/planter below.  I had been wanting to try & make something like this for awhile & because I love art, I love the outdoors....hey, why not put the two together?  I am really into succulants/cacti  & bonus, they don't need much tending to, which is nice.  Anyway, I finished this piece today. She wears a  paper feather headdress with a butterfly attached, & little plants coming out of the top of her head.  It is about 5 inches high.  Next time I want to try & go bigger.
