Smells Like The Fair

Yesterday we made a visit to the LA County Fair.  We do have one closer to where we live now, but I guess I am loyal to the one I grew up going to.  Had fun taking in the sights & smells of the fair experience...crowds of peeps, farm animals, people chowing down giant Turkey legs(sorry, they kind of gross me out). Saw many interesting edible things for sale, like deep fried chocolate covered bacon & deep fried Kool-aid balls.

A few shots from the day:

So I have finally stepped into modern times & got an updated cell phone.  See my new toy?  Yesterday, at the fair, was my first day using it & I must say I am mentally challenged with the thing.  I had 2 friends texting me while I was there & it took me forever to be able to press the right letters...I felt like I had huge sausage fingers.

All the time I was preoccupied trying to respond to texts, my daughter India really wanted to show me these miniature trains & I kept telling her "in a minute".  I was thinking afterward about those days(not so long ago),  when you'd go somewhere for the day & if someone wanted to get ahold of you they called your home phone & left a message, or they just waited until the next time they saw you to tell you what they needed to say.  Anyway, not trying to sound like an old Grandma here...but I wonder what this sense of urgency is all about in alot of us, that we feel like we have to get back to everyone right away & we have to always be accessable.  Ok, done with my ponderings.  So really the whole reason I wanted an iPhone anyways, was for this very cool case :) that I just ordered.

Black & White

All the chores that are going to get done, are done. Kids have finished their homework.  I am just playing around with my ink pen here, doodling & drawing my evening away.  Art, drawing/creating, is my love...I really don't know what I would do without it. I would be a very sad girl, yes I would.

A Snub-Nosed Girl

In attempts to paint a little different type of charector, I came up with this somewhat curious looking girl.  She's not a beauty queen by any means, but she has her own odd charm about her :)  She is wearing old style clothes, & has a brooch on her collar of two little sisters from the 1800's.

This is a closer view of the picture I put on her neck. It is one of my Daguerretypes/Tintypes I collect(love those little faces).

Today I also finished this new clay art doll, just in time for Autumn. She is wearing her Native American garb, & her name is Fallon.

My kids do so many painting projects outside on my little metal table, & they aren't exactly neat & tidy when they get into their art.  Anyway, my once black table had paint spills here & there....so I just decided to go with it & make the whole thing colorful.  I think I like it better now.

Some Warhol Soup & other things

Hello.  I know I'm a nerd, but I have to say I got kind of excited when I saw these colorful Campbell's soup cans while shopping today!  They are in in honor of Andy Warhol...who, well you know,  did the famous tomato soup art, amongst other things.

Last night, the husband man got a wild hair to clean out the garage.  Sooooo, we were moving stuff in the house that's been stored out there(or I should say shoved out there).  We were shuffling things around, taking shelves off the wall , so my bookcase could come back in.  Yay!  I missed my books. Anyway, when all was said & done, & I surveyed the new arrangement...I was like "huh, not sure that I like this".  Ha ha. I hate that!  Now I'm thinking it looks a bit too busy with all my beloved knick-knackys.

Ok, moving on. By the way,  I've noticed I'm not good at creating good segways when going from one train of thought to another.  If you're reading this, you may have noticed :)  So anyway...... below is a little clay mask I made. That is the latest creation & it's about 3 inches high, & can be hung on the wall.
